Thank you so much for wanting to share your story of love and dementia with me. I feel honored and privileged to receive it, and amplify it out into the world. Know that all stories are welcome here. Unless unforeseeable reasons prevent me from sharing a story, I will share each and every one that people submit.
Please fill out the form below to start the process of sharing. I will be in touch once this has been submitted.
IMPORTANT - Note that other than correcting any obvious misspellings, there will be no editing to the story you share. If you submit a story here, you are giving me permission to publish it on this site as is.
Story Prompts
Not sure what to say, but know you want to share? Below are some prompts to spark ideas. If you read one and something specific pops into your mind, I say go with that! Remember, there is no specific tone, emotion, or point of view you need to have with any story here. I encourage you to share whatever comes up. Once you’ve got your story, go back up to item #3 in the form above and write it in.
What is/was your loved ones favorite – food? Hobby or pass time? Song? Movie? Do/did they have some other thing that they loved or enjoyed? Do you have a fond (or not so fond!) memory associated with this?
What can/could your loved one often be found doing? Share some details or specifics or memories around this.
How did you feel when you first got the news of the diagnosis or became aware of the condition? Has that changed over time? Does it fluctuate?
What has surprised you (either in a “good way” or a “bad way”) along this journey with your loved one?
What is one of your favorite memories with your loved one? Tell me more about it. Why is it a favorite?
What would you tell someone if they were just beginning the journey of loving someone with dementia?
If you could go back to a specific time in yours and your loved one’s history, when would you go? Why?
Does/did your loved one have a favorite place? Is/was there a favorite place you like to go with them? Why was this a favorite, for you or them?
